As per a report by the Wall Street Journal, former United States President Donald Trump is reportedly contemplating offering a White House advisory position to tech magnate Elon Musk if he secures re-election this fall.
Musk, aged 52, has been vocal about issues concerning border security and economic policies through his social media platform, X.
The report suggests a warming relationship between Musk and the 77-year-old Trump, evidenced by regular phone conversations.
Citing sources familiar with the matter, the report indicates discussions between the influential figures regarding a prospective role for the Tesla CEO to formally contribute and wield influence over border security and economic policy decisions.
According to the Journal, some sources mentioned conversations where Musk and billionaire investor Nelson Peltz engaged with Trump to address concerns such as voter fraud prevention and persuading elites against backing President Biden's re-election bid.
Musk has openly criticized liberal policies, referring to them as the "woke mind virus". He has particularly scrutinized the Biden administration's approach to border security amidst a surge in illegal crossings at the southern border in recent times.
However, Musk's potential involvement in a Trump-led White House as an adviser could potentially complicate his leadership roles in companies he either founded or owns, including Tesla, SpaceX, X, and xAI.
His position as Tesla CEO is currently under scrutiny, with shareholders scheduled to vote next month on the reinstatement of his $56 billion pay package, previously invalidated by a Delaware judge in January.
