KARACHI: The spokesperson for the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco) announced on Tuesday that Pakistan's Multi-Mission Communication Satellite PAKSAT MM1 is scheduled for launch on Thursday.

The spokesperson stated that Suparco scientists and engineers are currently examining the PAKSAT MM1.

The launch will occur from the Xichang Satellite Launch Centre (XSLC) in China, according to the National Space Agency. This project is a part of the National Space Programme 2047.

Suparco released a statement explaining that PAKSAT MM1 is a collaborative effort between Suparco and the Chinese aerospace industry, aimed at meeting Pakistan's growing communication and connectivity needs.

The statement emphasized that the satellite, equipped with advanced communication technologies, will significantly contribute to the country's socio-economic development.

Suparco expressed that this satellite project symbolizes the strong technological cooperation between the People's Republic of China and Pakistan. It is expected to serve as a catalyst for Pakistan's journey towards becoming a Digital Pakistan.

The research commission announced that the launch ceremony will be broadcast live for media from Suparco establishments in Karachi and Islamabad.

Pakistan has previously launched six assets into space, including BADR-A, BADR-B, PAKSAT 1-R, PRSS-1, PakTes 1-A, and iCube Qamar. Earlier this month, iCube-Qamar, Pakistan's first satellite mission to the moon, transmitted the first-ever images of the moon captured in lunar orbit since its launch into space.

This development marks a significant milestone as Qamar became the first Pakistani satellite to enter lunar orbit and complete a full rotation in 12 hours, as reported by IST.

Scientists hailed this achievement as a groundbreaking success, representing a significant step forward for Pakistan's space exploration endeavors.
