Pakistan Enters T20 World Cup 2024 with Improved Ranking

As the T20 World Cup 2024 approaches, the Pakistan cricket team is gearing up with a boost in their ranking according to the latest T20I rankings issued by the International Cricket Council (ICC).


Under the leadership of Babar Azam, Pakistan has climbed one spot from their previous seventh position to secure the sixth position in the T20I rankings.

Joining them in the ascent are the two-time champions West Indies, now positioned at fourth place. With their players demonstrating excellent form, the Caribbean nation is co-hosting the upcoming mega event with the United States from June 1 to 29.


Having secured victories in the 2012 and 2016 editions, West Indies currently leads New Zealand and South Africa after a decisive 3-0 win over the latter, Now, South Africa has fallen to seventh place in the rankings, with India in the lead.


According to the cricketing body, "India, the winners of the inaugural edition in 2007, hold the top spot in T20I rankings with 264 rating points. 2021 champions Australia follow closely in second place with 257 points, while defending champions England are third with 254 points. West Indies trails them by two points at 252. New Zealand, Pakistan, and South Africa are all tied at 244 points, with Pakistan holding a slight advantage on decimal points."


This improvement in team ranking aligns with several Pakistani players making significant leaps in the ICC Rankings.


Left-handed batter Fakhar Zaman has surged six spots to 51st place on the batting list, while Shaheen Afridi has climbed three spots to joint 11th on the bowling chart.


In the all-rounder category, Imad Wasim has risen four spots to 12th, sharing the position with Shadab Khan, who has fallen one spot.


Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam maintain their positions at third and fourth place, respectively, in the T20I batting rankings.


Right now, England's Adil Rashid is at the top of the bowling rankings. After him, it's Sri Lanka's Wanindu Hasaranga and then India's Axar Patel in second and third place.


Meanwhile, India's Suryakumar Yadav tops the T20I batting rankings, with England's Phil Salt securing the second position.


In the all-rounder category, Sri Lanka's Hasaranga leads with a rating of 228, followed by Bangladesh's Shakib Al Hasan, who has fallen one place to second.
